Nightly Readers & Sight Words

boy-on-books-c-melonheadz-13-colored.png

Please continue to work with your child nightly on reading their weekly readers. These readers contain a lot of the sight words that your child will be learning this year. Your child will be learning a hundred total sight words and these readers truly assist your child in recognizing them.  Record their nightly reading in the reading log. This way I know that your child is working diligently on this. Starting the second nine weeks, your child will have to start reading these weekly books independently to me on Fridays without any pictorial support.

Thank you for all that you do!

Plaidypus Lost

Our book for this upcoming week is called Plaidypus Lost. It is the story of a beloved platypus stuffed animal that becomes lost on a day long trip filled with shopping, swimming, and much more. It is a wonderful story and the kids love reading it. For one of our centers this week, the kids will create their own platypus. They can decorate it in any way! I think their platypus will come out pretty cute.

First Week

Our first week back has been very tiring. I know that if I am tired, then your child is too. We have worked this week on getting to know our classroom routines, rules, and expectations. We worked on our writing, alphabet, centers, and numbers.  I am very proud of the progress we made this week. The class has been wonderful, kind, and loving. I can't wait for next week!

Here are some tracing pages that you can use to help your child. Check out this site for letters A-Z.

Thank Thank Thank You!!!

Today is Teacher Appreciation Day. We had some awesome parents and grandparents bring delicious snacks for our faculty today. Thank you so much! The snacks were wonderful! It was completely unexpected and very thoughtful!

Another big thank you is for ironing the gowns. All of our gowns are ironed thanks to you all. I really and truly am greatful for having such wonderful parents and grandparents. You all have made my first year teaching a blessed experience. Thank you!

Flowers

In science, we are studying about plants. We are learning about leaves, stems, petals, roots, and their needs. So today we did a garden journal entry. We wrote a sentence about flowers and created a picture of the flowers. The kiddos did a great job and absolutely loved the garden!

Train Ride

We will be going on a local train ride on May 26th. The students will need four dollars for their ticket. I will be sending home more information on the topic along with a permission slip. We will be having lunch at the park. Then, the kiddos will get to tour the elementary. They will get to see where they will be going next year! I am so excited for them! I still can't believe that we have four weeks left!

On the 29th, we will be having our field day. I believe it will be kindergarten boys against girls. We will play a ton of games and celebrate a successful year.

Graduation Gowns

It is getting close to graduation! I am very proud and excited for my class. Our graduation gowns need to be ironed. I thought that I might ask our class parents if they would like to iron two or three. If we all take a few to iron, then the process would go quicker. I will send a note home on Monday. Please let me know if you would like to help.

Eight Weeks Left

There are only eight short weeks left until school is over. I can not believe how far our class has progressed since the beginning of the year. With only eight weeks, we will be working extra hard on all subjects. We will be studying our sight words, blending sounds, and counting by ones, fives, and tens. Please continue to assist your child in these areas.

I will start sending information home regarding our graduation and upcoming award ceremony as soon as possible.
