Christmas Activities

Below are a few pictures of the activities that we did during December. I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and has a Happy New Years. Don't forget we come back to school on January 8th!

Here is our bulletin board. The kids made Christmas trees with their handprints. They turned out so cute! I loved the gingerbread girls/boys that were created. They were so creative.

Our class was featured in the Jimp. We had been working on our Holidays Around the World project. Everyone had received their airplane ticket to travel to Mexico. We worked so hard and learned so much with this project. We studied the USA, Mexico, and Australia. It was exciting and interesting!

Breakfast with Rudolph is always a fun time! We enjoyed our donuts, cookies, and chocolate milk. Afterward, we listened to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. We even did the Reindeer Pokey! A big thanks to the Carnegie Library for the wonderful event.

We absolutely LOVED the presentation by the Barn Hill Preserve. They taught us about different exotic and native creatures. For example, we learned all about the sloth and the armadillo. I love their presentations. They are so informative and engaging!

Here is a clip from our Christmas Caroling at Magnolia Manor. The kids had a blast singing. We decorated cards and ornaments to pass out to the residents afterward.

Thanksgiving Projects

Our Thanksgiving turkey project turned out great!! I loved seeing the kids’ unique feathers. They all were so cool!

We worked hard on creating moccasins. We talked about the Pilgrims, Indians, and the first Thanksgiving. The class colored their moccasins, threaded the yarn, and added their jewels.

Graphing

Here are a few of our graphing activities that we did a few weeks ago. I forgot to post them. We graphed boys and girls in the class. We graphed our favorite pet. We even graphed our favorite Halloween monster. They had so much fun learning how to graph and how to vote on their favorite!

Veterans' Day Cards

Our class created Veterans' Day cards to give to the VFW last Wednesday. We thanked them for their service. The VFW was so thankful for their cards and our class was so proud of them. They put a lot of hard work into them.

Osmo

We have opened our new Osmo kit for our class to work with. We have two kits. There are different apps and manipulatives to go with the games. The games are varied but innovative and creative. So far, we are LOVING our Osmos! We have worked with the drawing monster game and the shape building activity. We will start our number identification game this week.

Book Bags

I created book bags for all of our class. These book bags contain your child's leveled reader for the week. Please read this book with your child throughout the week. Point out sight words. Work with your child on becoming an amazing reader. Please send these book bags back daily. As we are becoming more and more proficient with reading, I will be changing out their books quicker. The books are part of a class set, so please send them back. Thank you!

Marion County Fair

We had a fun time at the Marion County Fair. A big thank you for all the volunteers that made this event possible. We appreciate it!

Scissors & Glue

We have been working so hard on our cutting and gluing skills. Please forgive the mess. We are really trying to build our fine motor skills.

Week 10/7

This week we have a lot of things going on. We will begin our beginning of the year TPRI testing. This is our reading testing. I test students on rhyming, blending, and letter identification. It is a long test. I will be absent on Thursday, so folders will not be sent home. We will be testing for report cards as well. It is a full week with lots of testing unfortunately. On Friday, our theme is Pink Out. Your child can help us celebrate tackling cancer by wearing pink.

Reading Academy Video

Thank you for sending back your child’s video release form. I was selected this summer to attend a Reading Academy at Region 8. We are collaborating with each other to learn different strategies and techniques to teach reading. I picked a goal for our class to work on. I chose identifying letters and producing their sounds due to these items really only being covered in Kindergarten. I was asked to make two videos for the Academy. One in the fall and one in the spring. The videos are short 5-10 minute videos showing how I work with my students on letters and sounds. We can show our class doing games, flash cards, or activities that show them engaged in learning. We already do all these things, except we don’t videotape. I hope no one gets camera shy!! The video will only be viewed by Mrs. Rhonda Reed, my instructor, and myself. They will not be published on the internet or social media for others to view. Once again, thank you for sending your child’s form back. I know it came out of the blue, but thank you for your support.

First Week

We had a fantastic first week. I am so proud of how well they all did! We spent the week learning our classroom procedures and rules. Next week we will begin working on more academic tasks.

A few quick reminders: Please let the front office know of any transportation changes before 2:30. We dismiss at 3:10 and it is very chaotic. If you are planning on picking up your child from the front office, please do so before 2:50.

If you need more car tags, please do not hesitate to let me know. I can send more home with your child in his or her binder.
