Author Study
We spent last week learning about two authors, Lois Ehlert and Eric Carle. We talked about how their illustrations made the book come alive. Our class created charts comparing the two different illustration styles. We drew our favorite part of a story. Of course everyone chose Eric Carle's book, "Have You Seen My Cat?". It had kittens so it was a hit.
We spent time learning about our names and the beginning sounds/letters of our names. We created a class name graph. The kids had a great time doing this! It was such a fun activity.

New Ipads
We have gotten an Ipad cart for our classroom! Yay! We are very fortunate that there are enough Ipads for everyone to have their own. This is such a blessing!!
Name Activity
In class, we learned about our names and how the letters go in a particular order. We made name puzzles and put them back together again. The class had so much fun!!

Assessments
I completed quick assessments for our class this past week. I will send home the results tomorrow. We have been so busy working on our sight words, letters, and numbers that we haven't had a chance to breathe. This week will be all about reviewing. We will spend the week identifying our letters, numbers 0-10, and counting to 60.

Authority Figures
We have been discussing who is important at home, in school, and in our community. We talk about who makes the rules and why we have to follow them. Today in social studies, we created an anchor chart about these important authority figures. We listened to Officer Buckle and Gloria as well. It is a fantastic book!

Eventful Week
Last week was crazy due to the impending bad weather. Thank goodness nothing happened other than a few broken tree branches and a little flooding. We are very blessed.
I hope everyone has taken the weekend to recharge, because this week is going to be exciting. We are focusing on building our classroom community, as well as learning how to utilize our classroom library. We will begin reading our chapter book, Junie B. Jones. We will use our chapter book to help us visualize the story instead of focusing on the pictures in a book.
Our class has successfully finished all of their reading and math testing in a program called Istation. It is an interactive game that students can play on the Ipad or computer that tests/extends their knowledge in core math and reading areas. Istation starts every month out by testing to see where students are in their learning to adjust to meet their needs.
Just a reminder....we are constantly social distancing as much as we can on campus. We are washing our hands, sanitizing our areas, and using hand sanitizer. After school and before school each day, I am disinfecting tables and high traffic areas in our classroom. Although we are doing everything we can to keep ourselves safe, there are several cases of strep throat going around on the elementary and primary campuses. I just wanted to let you all know. We are trying our best to minimize all germs, however strep has found its way on campus. Please be on the lookout for any of the signs/symptoms of strep in your child.

First Week
We Did It!! |
Our very first week of school was amazing! We survived!! The kids were fantastic. We worked on classroom procedures and routines. We learned all about one another. In fact, all of your family secrets were revealed! Hopefully this next week will be just as wonderful.
Please feel free to call, message, or even email if you have any questions or concerns. I know I have had a few questions regarding our classroom's COVID-19 procedures. We are all maintaining our social distancing as much as possible. We are consistently hand washing, using hand sanitizer, and disinfecting. We are doing everything we can to maintain a healthy, happy classroom.
